Zelenskyy Accuses Trump Pressuring Kyiv Into Surrender

200

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accused Donald Trump of attempting to pressure Ukraine into yielding to Russia during a weeklong diplomatic row, according to an interview with Bloomberg. In the same discussion published Tuesday in Italy's Corriere Della Sera, Zelenskyy proposed meeting Trump's request to halt strikes on Russian oil refineries as compensation for additional Patriot interceptor missiles needed by Kyiv.

Zelenskyy stated that if President Trump cannot restrain Vladimir Putin from continuing his aggression, he should instead provide long-requested interceptors so Ukraine can defend its energy infrastructure. Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio later described the situation as a balance between obligations to partners and domestic requirements for facilities, insisting no actions were deliberately designed to harm Ukraine.

The exchange intensified amid reports that Zelenskyy prepares to meet with Trump's envoy Steve Witkoff in Norway alongside Jared Kushner. Ukrainian officials claim the administration has delayed interceptor shipments while restricting Starlink satellite data vital for countering Russian drones. With Patriot defenses nearly depleted, Zelenskyy emphasized his need for more interceptors already purchased by European nations.
