Nor'easter slams Northeast with coastal flooding through Sunday

An early-season nor'easter is currently hammering the East Coast, bringing major coastal flooding, strong winds, and rain from North Carolina to New England. The storm's peak fury lashed the mid-Atlantic and New England on Saturday, causing wind gusts over 50 mph that downed trees and knocked out power in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Maryland, and parts of Delaware. Coastal inundation reached its peak along the Jersey shore and into North Carolina's Outer Banks.

Forecast models indicate the storm will linger through Sunday with rain continuing across southern New England. Saturday evening saw high tide flooding from New England to parts of the mid-Atlantic coast. In Connecticut specifically, authorities expect 2 to 4 inches of rain by Monday night while peak inland wind gusts are projected between 40 and 50 mph.
