U.S. Foils Terror Plots in California by Radical Left Groups
Federal law enforcement officials announced the arrest of four individuals linked to a far-left, pro-Palestinian, anti-government group called the Turtle Island Liberation Front. The suspects, all from the Los Angeles area, face charges of conspiracy and possession of unregistered destructive devices after being caught planning to carry out bombings across Southern California on New Year’s Eve. The FBI and Department of Justice stated they prevented a potentially massive terror attack, with surveillance footage showing the suspects testing bombs in the desert. The group advocates for the liberation of North America, or 'Turtle Island,' and has expressed pro-Palestinian sentiments on social media, calling for the end of 'fascist colonizers.' The suspects allegedly crafted complex pipe bombs with instructions to detonate them at multiple logistics centers at midnight, with additional plans to target federal immigration agents. An additional member was arrested in New Orleans, and the FBI is investigating over 350 subjects linked to violent online networks. Authorities also disrupted a credible threat involving the same group planning to attack five locations in Los Angeles with improvised explosive devices, and a fifth individual connected to the group was detained in New Orleans. U.S. officials emphasized ongoing efforts to combat domestic terrorism and radical groups.
