Philadelphia Marathon 2025: Record Participation, Road Closures, and Event Details

The 32nd Philadelphia Marathon Weekend is set to host a record-breaking 37,000 runners across four races, including the full marathon, half marathon, 8K, and children’s run, from November 21-23. The event features a significant increase in participants due to a waitlist, with over 2,000 more expected to finish than previous years. Major races start early Saturday and Sunday, with routes passing through Center City, Old City, University City, Mantua, and Fairmount Park. The races will be supported by a Health and Fitness Expo at the Pennsylvania Convention Center and family activities at the Nemours Children’s Fun Zone. Road closures will impact key streets such as Benjamin Franklin Parkway, Kelly Drive, Spring Garden Street, and others, starting as early as 2 a.m. on race days, with most roads reopening by mid-afternoon. Spectators can watch from designated cheer zones, with limited access to the race routes for safety. SEPTA will reroute several bus lines, and travel advisories recommend using nearby transit stations. The event coincides with the opening of the Christmas Village in LOVE Park and City Hall, featuring vendors and holiday festivities. The marathon celebrates Greek tradition with handcrafted olive wreaths for winners, and the event has drawn international participants, some with personal ties to Philadelphia.
