Family Dies After Rescue from Massachusetts Island Fire
A family from Massachusetts experienced a tragic event after their boat caught fire near Cape Cod. The Sullivan family, consisting of 73-year-old Cynthia Sullivan, her 72-year-old husband Patrick, and their son Tyler, were asleep on their boat when it suddenly caught fire overnight Monday. The family’s dog, who alerted them to the fire, died in the blaze. They swam to Naushon Island, about four miles from Martha’s Vineyard, and took shelter in a barn. After over 24 hours stranded, Tyler Sullivan found a marine radio washed ashore and called for help. The Coast Guard rescued the family via helicopter, transporting them to Cape Cod Hospital. Cynthia Sullivan was badly injured during the incident and died Thursday from her injuries. Patrick Sullivan is awake and breathing without assistance. Tyler Sullivan praised his brother for saving their lives amidst chaotic circumstances. The incident remains under investigation, and authorities emphasize the importance of proper safety equipment and quick thinking in emergencies.
