Campbell Soup Executive Racist Remarks and Employee Retaliation Lawsuit

Campbell Soup Company faces a lawsuit in Wayne County Circuit Court after former security analyst Robert Garza alleged he was fired for reporting racist remarks and inappropriate conduct by Vice President Martin Bally. Garza secretly recorded an hour-long tirade where Bally criticized the company's products, disparaged customers and Indian employees, and made racially offensive comments, including calling Indian coworkers 'idiots' and expressing disdain for 'bioengineered meat' from a 3D printer. Bally also admitted to coming to work high from marijuana edibles. Garza reported Bally’s remarks to his supervisor, J.D. Aupperle, in January 2025, but was terminated 20 days later, allegedly in retaliation for whistleblowing. The lawsuit claims the termination was wrongful and that Campbell maintains a racially hostile work environment. Campbell’s spokesperson condemned Bally’s comments as unacceptable and stated he is on leave pending investigation. Garza criticizes the company's response, asserting that their motto of treating employees like family is false, and highlights the ongoing legal proceedings, which include potential evidence exchange, depositions, and possible trial. The case raises broader issues of corporate accountability, workplace discrimination, and retaliation.
