UN Forums Highlight Uyghur Forced Labour, China's Silence and Human Rights Violations

Recent reports from the UN forums in Geneva reveal ongoing human rights violations against Uyghurs in China, including forced labour, cultural erasure, and political repression. NGOs and Uyghur advocates, such as the World Uyghur Congress (WUC), Uyghur Youth Initiative, and others, have actively called for international action, including stronger enforcement of existing laws like the US Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act and EU regulations. Despite Chinese attempts to silence Uyghur speakers and obstruct discussions—such as interruptions and accusations of inciting violence—Uyghur leaders like Dolkun Isa have continued to speak out, condemning China's systematic repression, mass detentions, and cultural suppression in Xinjiang. Advocates emphasize the urgent need for global cooperation to address forced labour, ensure supply chain transparency, and protect Uyghur cultural and linguistic rights, amid ongoing efforts to raise awareness and seek accountability at the UN.
