Sharks Acquire Kiefer Sherwood from Canucks in Trade Deal

The San Jose Sharks have traded for winger Kiefer Sherwood from the Vancouver Canucks, acquiring him in exchange for two second-round draft picks in 2026 and 2027 and defenseman Cole Clayton. Sherwood, a forward, is in the last season of a two-year, $3 million contract and has been a productive player for Vancouver, leading the team with 17 goals in 44 games this season. He has a career total of 121 points in 309 games with multiple NHL teams and is known for his physicality, averaging 5.5 hits per game. The Sharks, currently in a playoff position in the Western Conference, aim to bolster their roster for a postseason push, adding Sherwood’s scoring and physical presence to their lineup. Vancouver, struggling with a 16-27-5 record and the last in NHL standings, is stockpiling draft picks, now holding seven for the upcoming draft. The trade also involves defenseman Clayton, a 25-year-old undrafted player with five points in 33 games for the AHL’s San Jose affiliate. The Canucks’ GM Patrik Allvin expressed gratitude to Sherwood for his contributions and indicated the move aligns with their rebuilding strategy. The Sharks’ interest in Sherwood was reported in late December, and this trade marks a significant move for both teams as they adjust their rosters for the remainder of the season.
