Ravens Sign Former Bengals and Auburn Pass Rusher Carl Lawson for Pass-Rush Help

Carl Lawson, a former Bengals draft pick and Auburn standout, has signed with the Baltimore Ravens' practice squad to bolster their pass rush. The Ravens, tied for the fewest sacks in the NFL with only eight, traded outside linebacker Odafe Oweh and lost Tavius Robinson to injury, creating a need for experienced pass rushers. Lawson, who had five sacks and 15 quarterback hits last season with the Dallas Cowboys, remained patient during his free agency period, citing a desire to find the right fit and focus on health. His NFL career began with the Bengals in 2017, where he led all first-year players with 8.5 sacks. After injuries limited his playing time, Lawson signed a three-year, $45 million contract with the Jets but suffered an Achilles tear before playing a game. He returned to start for the Jets in 2022, recording seven sacks, but played limited snaps in 2023. Lawson has trained extensively in the offseason and feels healthy and ready to contribute. Ravens head coach John Harbaugh praised Lawson's experience and character, noting he is in good shape and can provide much-needed pass-rush help. Lawson's signing comes as the Ravens aim to improve their pass rush and turn around a season that has seen them struggle with injuries and a poor record.
