New Year Energy Assistance Programs for Ameren Customers Amid Rising Electricity Costs
Ameren Corporation has announced the availability of new funds and assistance programs for its residential customers in Missouri and Illinois as 2026 begins. The company encourages eligible households to apply early for support to manage rising energy bills, which have been increasing faster than inflation since 2022 due to surging demand, infrastructure issues, and economic fluctuations. Ameren partners with organizations like United Way of Greater St. Louis, the Energy Assistance Foundation, and Community Action Agencies to distribute over $140 million in energy assistance and LIHEAP support in 2025. Specific programs include the Dollar More program in Missouri, which offers up to $600 annually to households earning up to 300% of the Federal Poverty Level, and Warm Neighbors Cool Friends in Illinois, providing up to $500 in bill assistance for households with incomes between 200% and 300% of the FPL or at 80% of the Area Median Income. Ameren also urges customers to consider weatherization efforts to reduce energy costs. The company emphasizes community support and encourages donations to help neighbors in need, especially as electric prices continue to outpace inflation, making energy affordability a critical concern for many families.
