Western Pennsylvania Faces Heavy Snow and Cold Temperatures This Weekend

Western Pennsylvania, including Pittsburgh, is preparing for impactful winter weather this weekend due to an Alberta Clipper system. The National Weather Service has issued winter weather advisories and storm warnings starting at 1 p.m. Saturday through 1 p.m. Sunday, with additional advisories extending into Monday for areas north of I-80. The region is expected to receive between 3 to 5 inches of snow overall, with higher elevations in the Laurel Highlands potentially seeing 6 to 10 inches, especially south of Pittsburgh. Snowfall will begin around midday Saturday, tapering off around midnight, with scattered snow continuing overnight. Cold air will follow, resulting in lows in the single digits and wind chills below zero, with gusts reaching 15-20 mph. Sunday’s temperatures will only reach the low 20s, feeling even colder in the single digits and teens. The weather will remain cold on Monday with lows in the teens and highs in the low 20s. A gradual warming trend begins midweek, with temperatures rising to the low 40s on Wednesday and rain expected on Thursday with highs in the low 50s. By Friday, temperatures will drop back into the 30s. Overall, a white Christmas is unlikely due to above-normal temperatures returning around Christmas.
