Joel Embiid Receives Technical Foul Over Altercation With Tolu Smith

Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid received a technical foul for an altercation with Detroit Pistons forward Tolu Smith during their Wednesday game. The incident occurred late in the first quarter when Smith shoved Embiid while both players competed for positioning near the basket. Following the initial contact, Embiid responded by shoving Smith with his right elbow, which officials determined initiated the physical exchange that escalated into shouting and further shoving requiring player intervention to separate them. Although Pistons guard Cade Cunningham converted the resulting free throw, the 76ers maintained a 56-42 lead at halftime while fans booed Embiid.
