British-Ghanaian rapper Sway Dasafo has died aged 44 at his home in Ghana. The Mobo awards announced the news, honoring him as a pioneer for Black British musicians who won best hip-hop act in 2005 while unsigned and defeated major artists like 50 Cent and the Game. Born Derek Andrew Safo to Ghanaian parents in London, he developed a versatile style across grime, hip-hop, and R&B before focusing on independent releases including mixtapes and his debut album This Is My Demo featuring the hit Little Derek.
