Supreme Court Rejects Sunny Balwani Appeal in Theranos Fraud Case

500

The U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear an appeal from Ramesh "Sunny" Balwani, leaving intact his federal convictions for fraud related to the collapse of Theranos.

Balwani is currently serving a sentence of over twelve years at FCI Terminal Island in San Pedro, California. His conviction stems from charges that he and founder Elizabeth Holmes misrepresented their blood-testing technology's capabilities to investors and patients.

During his trial, prosecutors presented evidence showing Balwani promoted services knowing some results were inaccurate due to flawed technology. He pleaded not guilty but admitted the jury was denied context regarding a 2013 investor call where Holmes expressed uncertainty about military deployment of Theranos tech.
