We Energies Steam Outage Causes Milwaukee Theater Cancellations, Power Restoration

A power outage at We Energies Valley Power Plant caused a temporary steam outage in downtown Milwaukee on December 13, 2025, impacting heating and leading to the cancellation of performances at the Marcus Performing Arts Center. The outage was triggered by an interruption in the gas supply to the plant, which supplies steam for heating most downtown buildings, including theaters and event venues. We Energies reported that service has been restored and steam pressure is being rebuilt, with customers expected to see service return gradually over the hours following the outage. The outage affected the Marcus Performing Arts Center, which canceled its 1 p.m. performance of 'The Pigeon Gets A Big Time Holiday Extravaganza,' and other scheduled shows continued as planned. The outage did not affect electricity or natural gas services. According to a We Energies spokesperson, approximately 300 customers in Milwaukee rely on the Valley Power Plant for heat. The company assured that no further outages are anticipated. The incident highlights the critical role of the plant in downtown Milwaukee's heating infrastructure and the swift response by We Energies to restore service.
