NTSB Investigates Near-Miss Between Plane and Helicopter Near Cleveland Hopkins Airport

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is investigating a close-call incident that occurred at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport involving a Southwest Boeing 737 and a Eurocopter helicopter operated by Metro Aviation. The incident happened while both aircraft were inbound to the airport, with the helicopter traveling from Wayne County Airport en route to pick up a patient at St. John Medical Center in Westlake. The helicopter crew and pilot landed safely, with no patients onboard at the time. Southwest Airlines reported that Flight 1333 landed safely after the pilots halted their initial approach upon spotting the helicopter. Throughout the incident, the pilots maintained communication with air traffic control. Both the airline and the helicopter company are cooperating with the NTSB investigation. The incident raises concerns about air traffic safety near Cleveland Hopkins, especially in busy airspace shared by commercial and medical flights.
