Gill Scores Fastest ODI Century And Second Double Hundred

Team India captain Shubman Gill smashed his fastest hundred in One Day International (ODI) cricket history on Wednesday. He reached the three-figure mark off 62 deliveries against West Indies in Guwahati, surpassing his previous record of 72 balls set against New Zealand in Indore in 2023. This performance marked his second consecutive ODI ton and brought his total to 11 hundreds in the format. Additionally, Gill created history by becoming only the second batter ever to score multiple double-centuries in ODIs; he achieved this feat during India's chase of a mammoth 406-run target in the match.

Before Gill, only Rohit Sharma had scored two or more ODI double centuries, with three such innings to his name. Gill surpassed Ishan Kishan for the fastest ODI hundred and became just the second player ever to score a double century while chasing targets after Glenn Maxwell's record-breaking knock against Afghanistan in the 2023 World Cup. His new fastest ODI double-century was recorded in 117 balls, faster than Ishan Kishan's 126-ball effort.
