Crews Install Final Turbines on Historic Dogger Bank Seabed
1K
Construction crews finished installing the last of a hundred turbines on the North Sea seabed at the Dogger Bank wind farm, located roughly 121 miles off the English coast. This area was once dry land during the Stone Age but is now underwater. The project utilizes fixed-bottom foundations because the seabed here sits between 50 and 120 feet deep, allowing steel tubes to be driven directly into it unlike deeper ocean floors which require floating platforms. Each turbine stands 827 feet tall with blades spanning nearly two-thirds of a mile. Once operational, the farm's combined capacity will supply power equivalent to over one million homes via high-voltage cables running back to Redcar.
