Four Hospitalized After Big Rig Crash on I-5 Near Old Town
A collision between a semi-truck and a car near the Washington Street off-ramp of Interstate 5 in Mission Hills resulted in four injuries, with all northbound lanes closed for several hours. The California Highway Patrol reported that at approximately 9:44 a.m., the truck crossed over its center divider after reportedly colliding with a Volkswagen Jetta, causing it to spill fuel and briefly catch fire near Old Town San Diego. While two occupants of the rig were evaluated on-site without needing hospitalization, four passengers in the passenger vehicle were transported for treatment of various injuries. Emergency crews spent hours containing the spilled fuel by dumping dirt over it before using a crane to remove the overturned truck from the roadway. Authorities confirmed that all traffic lanes reopened at 5:45 p.m., ending the disruption during morning rush hour.
