Sam Raimi's New Horror Movie Becomes HBO Max Global Hit
HBO Max has scored a significant global hit with its new 111-minute intense thriller titled Evil Dead Burn. The film, directed by Sébastien Vanicek and released in October 2026, currently holds the number one spot on HBO Max's worldwide movie charts. It surpassed major classics such as Contagion and V for Vendetta to reach this top position during a competitive Halloween viewing season. Although Sam Raimi is not credited as director or writer for Evil Dead Burn, his name remains associated with the franchise legacy following previous entries like Fede Álvarez's 2013 remake and Lee Cronin's 2023 film Rise. The sixth installment in this series follows Alice, a grieving woman who retreats to her in-laws' home where demonic possession begins to transform them into Deadites. Despite Sam Raimi not being involved in the directorial or writing of Evil Dead Burn specifically, the movie has proven to be a bigger streaming success than many expected following its profitable theatrical run that grossed $72.4 million worldwide on a $20 million budget.
