Police Operation in Saint-Lô Turns Violent: Man Seriously Injured During Drug Raid

On October 13, 2025, a police operation targeting drug traffickers in the Val-Saint-Jean district of Saint-Lô, Normandy, escalated into violence. The raid involved the intervention of the RAID special forces, along with approximately 64 firefighters, who responded to an intense situation that began early in the morning around 6 a.m. During the operation, authorities conducted multiple searches and arrests in several residences. A suspect attempting to flee the scene by climbing onto rooftops engaged in a gunfight with police officers, during which he seized an officer's weapon and fired at the officers. The police responded with gunfire, seriously injuring the suspect, who was subsequently evacuated by helicopter to Caen University Hospital. No police officers were injured. The incident prompted a large deployment of emergency services, including a medical emergency team and a psychological support unit for affected residents and officers. The police and judicial authorities, including the IGPN and the PJ of Caen, have launched investigations into the events. The neighborhood was secured, and residents were evacuated to a nearby social center for psychological support. A second suspect remains at large, and investigations are ongoing.
