Radio Professionals Promote Child Rights, Environmental Awareness, and Play on International Day of Play and World Environment Day

Radio professionals from India’s All India Radio, private FM, and community stations gathered for a day-long UNICEF-organized workshop to promote child rights and environmental awareness. The event focused on two key themes: ending plastic pollution, aligned with World Environment Day on June 5, and advocating for children’s unstructured play, in line with the International Day of Play on June 11. Over 30 media professionals and 15 students from Jamia Millia Islamia collaborated to create content such as talk shows, PSAs, and radio spots. The workshop emphasized the role of radio as a catalyst for change, highlighting its power to inform, listen, respond, and shape community priorities. Content produced will be eligible for the upcoming Radio4Child Awards, recognizing excellence in child-centered storytelling. UNICEF’s initiatives underscore the importance of reducing single-use plastics through behavioral change and promoting daily play for children’s mental, physical, and emotional development.
