Michigan Defense Dominates Penn State in Narrow Victory

500

In a 21-18 home win over Penn State on October 17, Michigan's defense was cited as the primary reason for victory after forcing three second-half turnovers. Safety Chris Bracy intercepted a pass and forced a fumble with a strip sack, while Rod Moore Jr. added an interception that shifted game momentum; all three of Michigan's touchdowns followed these plays. Quarterback Bryce Underwood started but benched in favor of backup Tommy Carr by coach Kyle Whittingham after trailing 3-0 at halftime due to two interceptions and poor field position. Although statistical outputs were similar, Coach Whittingham stated the timing allowed both players opportunities to prove themselves without committing long-term to a starter.
