Pat Murphy Curses Luck During Live Interview as Merrill Makes Catch

Brewers manager Pat Murphy interrupted a live sideline interview to curse his luck after Jackson Merrill made an incredible catch in center field, robbing Christian Yelich of extra bases. While being interviewed by Sports Illustrated's Tom Verducci about Milwaukee's plate approach, Sal Frelick hit a pitch into the right-center gap that appeared destined for multiple hits. As Murphy saw Merrill close on the ball with San Diego leading 1-0 in Game 3 of the NLDS, he cut off the broadcast to yell "Get in the gap, Sal" and then shouted "God damn it, Merrill." The moment became known as one of the season's best mid-interview highlights. Murphy later watched sternly from the dugout while commentators Adam Amin, Adam Wainwright, and A.J. Pierzynski chuckled at the unusual turn of events.
