Norwegian Cruise Surgeon Arrested on Drug Charges
Dr. Jacob Lee Henrichsen, an orthopedic surgeon from Arizona who has been practicing in Safford since approximately 2025, was arrested by U.S. Customs and Border Protection at PortMiami before boarding the Norwegian Jewel for a cruise to the Bahamas. During a luggage inspection as part of Operation Temptation, investigators found THC gummies, MDMA-containing products, pills, capsules, and psilocybin mushroom chocolate bars that tested positive in laboratory analysis. Because the seized quantities did not meet federal prosecution thresholds, Miami-Dade authorities took over the case, charging Henrichsen with one felony drug trafficking offense and two felony possession charges while he faces a $40,000 bail condition.
Two other passengers attempting to board the same ship were also arrested on similar lesser charges. Kimberly Ann Shannon from Ohio faced felony drug possession after investigators found THC-containing gummies and vapes in her luggage. Lori Watt of Illinois was similarly charged with one count of felony drug possession for cannabis edibles, candies, and two vape pens containing THC discovered during a baggage check at the port.
