Miles Wood Placed On Waivers As Blue Jackets Cap Dump

Blue Jackets veteran winger Miles Wood was placed on waivers less than a week before the season opener, entering his fourth year of a six-year contract. The 31-year-old Buffalo native scored eight goals and six assists in 54 games with Columbus last season after being acquired from Colorado in June.

Wood previously signed a $15 million deal with the Avalanche where he was part of a line that included Charlie Coyle, who was also traded to clear cap space. Two members of that original group have since left Denver while Wood remains on his final three years of service.

The organization has made him available for trade rather than claiming another team as they seek to move the remaining contract time. This follows a pattern where players with similar contractual situations were moved by both clubs during recent seasons.
