Avalanche Sign Forward Necas to 8-Year, $92 Million Extension Amid Strong Performance
The Colorado Avalanche have announced the signing of forward Martin Necas to an eight-year contract extension through the 2033-34 season. Necas, 26, will earn an average of $11.5 million annually, with $60.4 million in signing bonuses and a full no-trade clause for the first seven years. This deal underscores Necas's importance to the team, as he continues to build on a season where he has already scored 13 points in 11 games, ranking among team leaders in goals, points, and assists. Necas was acquired from the Carolina Hurricanes in January 2025 in a trade involving Mikko Rantanen, and has since become a key player for the Avalanche. His performance includes 41 points in 41 games for the Avalanche last season, with a career-high 83 points in the previous year. Necas's contributions have helped the Avalanche tie for the most points in the NHL, alongside teams like the Canadiens, Devils, Penguins, and Utah Mammoth. The deal ensures the Avalanche have nine players under contract for more than three years, including stars like Nathan MacKinnon, Gabriel Landeskog, and Cale Makar. Necas's presence is seen as vital for the team's ongoing success, especially as they aim to maintain their competitive edge in the league.
