Tourist Falls Overboard from TUI Cruise near Tenerife, Large Search Underway

A 76-year-old tourist has gone missing after falling overboard from the TUI cruise ship Marella Explorer 2 near Tenerife. The incident occurred Thursday morning while the ship was sailing from Madeira to Tenerife, with the vessel stopping and circling the area to initiate a search. The ship's crew immediately activated emergency protocols, and authorities dispatched two specialized rescue boats and a helicopter to the scene. Despite extensive efforts, including the deployment of a German-flagged sailing yacht, no trace of the passenger has been found yet. The missing person is believed to be a British national who fell from the 12th deck of the 14-deck ship, which is an adults-only vessel operated by Marella Cruises, part of the TUI Group. The ship was rerouted to Santa Cruz de Tenerife following the incident, and search efforts continue in the deep, fast-moving waters of the Atlantic. The incident is under investigation, and the ship's crew has temporarily closed several outdoor decks while reviewing footage and witness statements.
