Ja Morant Plans Appeal After Flopping Technical Foul Call

200

Portland Trail Blazers guard Ja Morant announced his intention to appeal a technical foul called for flopping late in Tuesday night's 136-129 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers. The call occurred with three minutes and forty-nine seconds remaining during an attempt by Lakers guard Austin Reaves, which resulted in Morant stumbling backward after absorbing contact. This was one of three flopping calls issued against Portland in the final six minutes; head coach Micah Nori described the frequency as unusual compared to previous seasons.

During arguments with NBA official Scott Foster regarding the call, broadcast footage showed Foster imitating Morant's movement to illustrate his perspective before walking away. Following the contest, Morant stated he would appeal the decision to avoid a potential $2,000 fine, asserting that he kept moving backward rather than falling.

Despite the controversy over officiating calls, Portland improved its record to 3-0 as an undefeated team while the Lakers fell to 3-1. The Blazers' balanced offense featured six players scoring in double figures and four exceeding 20 points, led by Morant's 23 points. Conversely, Luka Dončić scored a game-high 41 for the Lakers alongside Austin Reaves' 26.
