Capitals Sign Justin Sourdif To Eight-Year Extension

The Washington Capitals re-signed forward Justin Sourdif to an eight-year contract valued at $50.8 million, finalizing the deal just hours before the deadline for long-term agreements on Tuesday night.

At 24 years old, Sourdif was acquired by the team from Florida in the 2025 off-season and played his first full NHL season with Washington after having only four games prior to that. During the 2025-26 campaign, he recorded 15 goals and 35 points while finishing plus-17.

General Manager Chris Patrick described Sourdif as a versatile young forward who has developed steadily throughout his career. The new agreement carries an average annual value of $6.35 million for the first two seasons before increasing to higher amounts in subsequent years, including a significant signing bonus structure that was unavailable had negotiations not concluded on Tuesday.

Sourdif was originally selected by Florida in the third round of the 2020 NHL Draft and became just the ninth player in Capitals history to record a hat trick during his rookie year.
