Phillies Place Jesús Luzardo On Injured List

The Philadelphia Phillies announced that left-handed pitcher Jesús Luzardo has been placed on the 15-day injured list retroactive to September 12 due to left shoulder inflammation. Although an MRI showed no structural damage, Luzardo's condition did not improve as expected after rest following stiffness during his most recent start. In a corresponding move, right-hander Grant Holman was recalled from the minors; earlier reports mentioning Kyle Backhus were corrected by the team. Despite heading out of the rotation, manager Don Mattingly indicated hopes for Luzardo to return and contribute in future playoff contention.
