Kroger Appoints Greg Foran as New CEO After Walmart and Air New Zealand Leaderships

Kroger has announced the appointment of Greg Foran as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately. Foran, a highly experienced leader with over 40 years in the retail and airline industries, previously served as CEO of Air New Zealand and led Walmart's U.S. operations, where he successfully turned around the business and drove 20 consecutive quarters of comparable sales growth. His leadership at Walmart included digital transformation initiatives such as online ordering and pickup services, managing over 4,600 stores and one million employees. At Air New Zealand, he focused on digital innovation and operational resilience during the pandemic, navigating complex crises including supply chain issues and fleet upgrades. Kroger's board conducted an extensive search following the ousting of former CEO Rodney McMullen last year due to conduct concerns. Kroger's Chairman Ron Sargent remains on the board, while Foran joins as CEO and board member, aiming to strengthen the company's growth strategy. Kroger emphasized Foran's leadership style, customer focus, and operational discipline as key assets. The company reaffirmed its fiscal 2025 guidance and highlighted its commitment to delivering long-term value for shareholders amid ongoing market challenges.
