Texas Redistricting Risks and Indiana's Top GOP Lawmakers Recognized for Effectiveness

Texas GOP's redistricting plan relies on the assumption that Latino support for the Republican Party will remain strong, similar to 2024 voting patterns. However, recent polls suggest this is a risky strategy. Meanwhile, in Indiana, U.S. Senator Mike Braun and U.S. Representative Erin Houchin have been named the most effective GOP lawmakers in housing and education, respectively, according to a nonpartisan analysis by the Center for Effective Lawmaking. Braun was recognized as the most effective Senate Republican on housing policy, sponsoring significant legislation, with some bills passing the Senate. Houchin was acknowledged as the top House Republican on education, with one of her proposals becoming law. Braun, who recently transitioned from the Senate to governor of Indiana, ranked ninth among all senators for overall effectiveness, having introduced 116 bills, with several passing or becoming law. Indiana's legislative effectiveness scores highlight a disparity between GOP and Democratic lawmakers, with the state's Democratic representatives ranking near the bottom in effectiveness. Indiana lawmakers are planning to redistrict ahead of the 2026 elections, focusing on districts represented by Democrats Frank Mrvan and André Carson.
