Florida Freeze Watch: Temps to 27F, Cold Air Hits Central West
A freeze watch has been issued for Central West Florida, specifically Coastal Levy, Inland Levy, Citrus, Hernando, and Sumter counties, valid from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Tuesday. Temperatures are expected to dip as low as 27 degrees Fahrenheit in these areas. The National Weather Service defines a freeze watch as a potential for temperatures to fall into the 29-32 degree range, typically issued a few days in advance. Further south, a Weather Impact Alert is in effect for the Tampa Bay area, anticipating another blast of cold air through Tuesday morning until 10 a.m. Near-freezing temperatures and patchy frost are possible, particularly north of Tampa and inland. The Suncoast region, including Sarasota, is also preparing for a cold front. Showers are expected Monday morning, followed by dropping temperatures into the 60s with winds up to 20 mph and gusts to 30 mph, making it feel colder. Overnight low temperatures are forecast to fall near freezing inland on both Tuesday and Wednesday. Highs on Monday and Tuesday are expected to remain in the 50s. Residents are advised to take precautions, including bringing sensitive plants and pets indoors, dressing in layers with thicker jackets or coats, and allowing extra time for morning commutes due to potential frost on windshields. Temperatures are expected to begin warming up by midweek, returning to near normal by Thursday.
