Guérin Blames Hard Left for Limoges Town Hall Fire

100

Just six months into his mayoral term, Guillaume Guérin faces intense scrutiny after a fire severely damaged the historic town hall in Limoges. The blaze destroyed much of the building's wooden clock tower and drew widespread shock from citizens mourning their city's iconic structure. While prosecutors have arrested two suspects linked to radical-left networks, Mayor Guérin explicitly blames the French hard left for supporting rioters responsible for the destruction.

The incident has become a focal point in ongoing nationwide protests that began as high school demonstrations but have expanded into broader frustration over difficult living costs and France's daunting fiscal deficit. Although Limoges received messages of support from US Vice President JD Vance, Guérin noted he did not receive one from outgoing President Emmanuel Macron.

Guérin asserts that the damage will influence upcoming presidential elections and warns that "this country is not doing well at all." The mayor describes his week as defining yet tragic for France beyond just Limoges. As hundreds of thousands continue to protest, Guérin remains deeply affected by the loss.
