Trending Food Closure Orders in Ireland: Multiple Businesses Shut Down for Food Safety Violations

In May, several food businesses across Ireland faced closure orders due to serious breaches of food safety regulations. The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) issued five closure orders, including a food business operating in a car workshop shed in Balbriggan, Dublin, which was unregistered and divided by a fabric curtain, creating hygiene and pest control issues. Other closures included Haperty Limited in Finglas, Dublin, for handling raw fish and poultry at unsafe temperatures, and Stop n Shop Convenience Store in Carlow, which was shut down for extensive dust contamination caused by ongoing building works, making food unsafe for consumption. Additional enforcement actions included prohibition orders on businesses such as Kerala Royal Caterers, Pizza Corner, Shake Dog, Thindi, and Tasty Food, for various violations of food safety laws. The FSAI chief emphasized that many violations, such as unclean premises and pest infestations, are preventable with proper food safety management and staff training. The closures highlight ongoing challenges in ensuring food safety compliance among Irish food businesses.
