New Maps Show Regions Likely To See More Snow This El Niño Winter

A new CNN Weather analysis indicates that this year's potentially record-setting El Niño will likely increase snowfall across the southern United States, stretching from parts of the Southwest and southern Rockies through the Plains, Appalachians, and Mid-Atlantic. During past El Nino winters, storms affecting these areas typically followed a track along the Appalachian spine or developed into nor'easters that were intensified by the climate pattern. However, increased precipitation does not guarantee more snow because sufficient cold air is also required for winter weather to form.
