Eid Mubarak 2025: Global Celebrations, Wishes, and Significance of Eid al-Adha

Muslims worldwide are celebrating Eid al-Adha 2025, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, which marks the end of Hajj and is the second major Islamic holiday. The festival falls on June 6 in Saudi Arabia and neighboring countries, and on June 7 in India and other regions. Arafat Day, considered the holiest day in the Islamic calendar, was observed on June 5, the day before Eid in Saudi Arabia. Eid al-Adha commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son Ishmail in obedience to God, with the act of animal sacrifice (sheep, goats, cows, or camels) being central to the celebration. The holiday involves visiting family, exchanging greetings, sharing festive meals, and distributing meat to the less fortunate. The most common greeting is 'Eid Mubarak,' which means 'blessed Eid,' with greetings in multiple languages shared worldwide. The festival is celebrated by approximately 1.9 billion Muslims globally, with Indonesia, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, and Nigeria having the largest Muslim populations. Leaders and organizations, including the International Handball Federation, have extended holiday wishes, emphasizing peace, health, and prosperity. The celebrations include sharing images, wishes, and messages via social media platforms like Instagram, WhatsApp, and Facebook, highlighting the festive spirit and cultural significance of Eid al-Adha.
