Governor Race, Utilities, Immigration Drive Early Voting

200

Over 1.27 million New Yorkers cast ballots during the first six days of early voting for the 2026 general election, marking a significant increase compared to the same period in 2022 when turnout was roughly half that number. Unofficial figures from the New York State Board of Elections show that Albany County recorded the highest total with nearly 30,000 votes, followed by Saratoga and Rensselaer counties. Early voting continues through Sunday, November 1st.

At a DeWitt Town Hall on Tuesday, voters cited specific issues influencing their decisions for the governor's race. One voter supported Republican Bruce Blakeman due to his record in Nassau County but expressed frustration with rising utility costs and safety concerns. Another early voter chose Democrat Kathy Hochul while expressing concern over immigration enforcement methods. Both individuals noted that voting early provided flexibility to avoid waiting until Election Day on Tuesday, November 3rd.
