Police Detain YouTuber Dhruv Rathee at Gurugram Home Ahead of CJP Protest
Delhi Police detained popular YouTuber and political activist Dhruv Rathee from his residence in Sector 56, Gurugram on Saturday morning ahead of the Cockroach Janta Party's (CJP) planned protest at Jantar Mantar. A group of approximately fifty officers arrived at his home to take him into custody as he prepared to join the demonstration announced via social media platforms. Rathee had traveled from Germany earlier in the week and previously attended a CJP event in Bengaluru on October 8 before arriving in India. The detention has sparked immediate backlash, with the party demanding his release and its legal cell head claiming similar detentions of other activists like Abhijeet Dipke and Ratna Singh. While police cite security concerns as justification for restricting large gatherings, authorities have intensified measures including deploying drones, installing barricades and spike strips near Delhi borders, and preventing over 1,000 individuals from entering the protest area overnight.
