Galaxy Research: Over Half Bitcoin Supply Unidentified

CoinDesk reports that Galaxy Research has categorized approximately 11.1 million bitcoins as unattributed, representing roughly 55% of the total supply mined to date. These coins reside at addresses linked neither to exchanges, funds, nor governments because no known owner can be identified on the public ledger. Alex Thorn, head of research at Galaxy, attributes this finding to widespread self-custody among individuals who manage their own private keys rather than entrusting assets to institutions.
