Claude Authentication Fails: Over 10k Users Hit by Outage

Users attempting to access Claude AI on Tuesday faced widespread authentication failures, with over 14,000 reported issues appearing shortly after 10 a.m. ET according to Downdetector. The outage affected multiple platforms including the web interface, iOS and Android apps, desktop clients, as well as Claude Code and Cowork services. Many users encountered specific error messages stating their accounts were temporarily unable to authenticate or that requests could not be processed.

Anthropic confirmed an active issue involving elevated error rates across its ecosystem at 10:21 a.m. ET but later announced on September 29 at 10:59 a.m. ET that all services had returned to normal operation. While most existing conversations resumed functioning, the company noted that some users might still experience intermittent failures requiring retries or re-sign-in attempts.
