Strategy (MSTR) Buys 397 Bitcoin for $45.6M, Increasing Holdings to Over 641K Coins
Strategy Inc. (formerly MicroStrategy), the largest corporate holder of Bitcoin, acquired 397 BTC last week at an average price of $114,771, costing approximately $45.6 million. This purchase brings its total Bitcoin holdings to over 641,205 coins, valued at around $69 billion, with an average purchase price of $74,057 per Bitcoin. The firm largely funded these acquisitions through the sale of its Class A common stock and perpetual preferred stocks, including STRK, STRF, and STRD, as part of its broader capital raising plans aiming for up to $84 billion in Bitcoin acquisitions by 2027. The latest purchase follows a week in which Strategy also bought 390 BTC for about $43 million. Despite recent purchases, Strategy's stock has declined about 1.7% in premarket trading, and its market capitalization has dropped significantly from its summer highs, with the company's market value now just over 1x its Bitcoin holdings, indicating a contraction in its net asset value. Strategy's Bitcoin holdings represent more than 3% of the total Bitcoin supply, with unrealized paper gains of approximately $21.5 billion at current prices. The company’s strategy involves maintaining a diverse capital structure with equity, debt, and preferred stocks designed to withstand significant Bitcoin price drops. Recently, Strategy reported a weaker third quarter with a profit of $2.8 billion, down from $10 billion in the previous quarter, and its stock closed slightly higher despite market declines. Michael Saylor, Strategy's co-founder and executive chairman, emphasized the company's ongoing commitment to Bitcoin accumulation, even amid market volatility, with a notable statement: 'Orange is the color of November,' signaling continued buying activity. The company's recent acquisitions and financial strategies reflect its aggressive stance on Bitcoin as a treasury reserve asset, despite the current market fluctuations and a decline in its stock price.
