Manaus Emergency Repairs: Djalma Batista Road, Bridge, and Flood Prevention
Vereador Rodrigo Guedes has raised concerns about the structural integrity of a section of Avenida Djalma Batista, one of Manaus's main roads. During an inspection near Millennium Shopping, Guedes observed that the sidewalk and part of the road are 'hollow' and at imminent risk of collapse due to erosion beneath the asphalt and sidewalk. He has filed a complaint with the Public Ministry to demand urgent repairs from the city government, aiming to prevent potential accidents in this high-traffic area. Meanwhile, the Municipal Infrastructure Secretariat (SEMINF) has undertaken emergency interventions to address structural issues caused by material leaks. On January 30, SEMINF responded to a detected problem on the bridge over the Igarapé do Mindu, located on Avenida Djalma Batista, which had developed a crater due to structural damage. The emergency work involved reinforcing the area with geotextile mats, rip-rap bags, and earth filling to ensure safety for pedestrians and drivers, especially during the rainy season when such issues become more frequent. The city administration, led by Acting Mayor and Secretary of Works Renato Júnior, emphasized swift action to restore damaged infrastructure, including drainage recovery and asphalt maintenance, to maintain traffic flow and safety. Local residents, like Ricardo Reis, expressed appreciation for the quick response, noting that the city's prompt repairs help prevent accidents and improve urban mobility. Additionally, the municipal government has been proactive in carrying out other emergency works across Manaus, including drainage system repairs, road reinforcements, and addressing issues caused by heavy rains and debris blockages. These efforts aim to mitigate flood risks and ensure the safety and mobility of the city's residents amid challenging weather conditions.
