Zverev Advances in Shanghai Masters Third Round

US Open champion Alexander Zverev defeated Quentin Halys to advance in the third round of the ATP 1000 Shanghai Masters on Sunday. The match ended with a score of 6-4, 6-7 (8), 6-3 after two match points slipped away during the second-set tiebreaker. This victory marked Zverev's sixth win against Halys this season and his fourth in their career, including a five-setter at Flushing Meadows earlier that year.

In another third-round action on Sunday, U.S. Open finalist Ben Shelton lost to 21-year-old Arthur Gea with a score of 7-6 (5), 7-6 (3). The Frenchman converted his first match point in the second-set tiebreaker against the third-seeded American.

Other notable results included Francis Tiafoe losing after having a match point to Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, and Alex de Minaur defeating Rei Sakamoto. Karen Khachanov also advanced by beating Adrian Mannarino 6-2, 6-4.

No. 1-ranked Jannik Sinner withdrew from the tournament due to a right knee injury that will keep him out of play for the rest of 2026.
