Fatal Amtrak Train Crash Kills Mother, Daughter in Mobile

On Saturday, February 21, 2026, a 31-year-old mother, Brittany Williams, and her 8-year-old daughter, both from Theodore, Alabama, were killed when their vehicle collided with an Amtrak passenger train. The incident occurred around 6:51 a.m. at the railroad crossing near Cary Hamilton Road and Bellingrath Road in south Mobile County. Mobile Police and Fire-Rescue responded to the scene. Authorities confirmed that the audible signal, flashing lights, and crossing arms at the railroad crossing were functioning properly at the time of the impact. The Amtrak train, part of the Mardi Gras Service traveling from Mobile to New Orleans, continued for approximately 2,100 feet after the collision before coming to a stop. No injuries were reported among the train's passengers or crew, and the train sustained no damage. After the site was cleared by emergency crews, the train proceeded westbound to New Orleans. Steven Millhouse, a spokesperson for the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department, stated that the train's passengers remained on board during the emergency response. This incident marks another tragedy along the Amtrak Mardi Gras Service route, which resumed along the Gulf Coast in mid-August 2025 and has been noted for exceeding initial ridership projections. Previous fatal incidents involving the service include two deaths at a train crossing in Pass Christian, Mississippi, in late September.
