20K

The Roland-Garros airport on La Réunion recorded more than 1.82 million travelers between January and August 2026, representing a 1% increase compared to the same period in 2025. While total flight movements remained virtually unchanged with a slight decline of 0.1%, passenger numbers rose by approximately 17,300 people year-over-year due to improved flight occupancy rates. Total traffic including transit reached nearly 1.864 million passengers, marking a 1.2% annual growth driven primarily by an increase in transiting travelers (+10.5%). Connections with mainland France remain the dominant route, accounting for over 1.05 million passengers and representing roughly 58% of non-transit traffic despite minimal progress at +0.3%. Regional destinations show mixed results: Mauritius grew slightly to over 441,000 travelers while Mayotte declined by 6.4% and Madagascar fell by 3.5%. Significant positive momentum came from Johannesburg (+11.9%) and international routes outside the Indian Ocean which surged 33% with Bangkok now serving as a key hub alongside new connections to India.
