Polish tennis star Maja Chwalińska faces Ukrainian Dajana Jastremska at WTA Beijing tournament

Maja Chwalińska will compete against Ukraine's Dajana Jastremska in the second round of the WTA 1000 event in Pekin, with a betting promotion offering up to 300 PLN and a 150.00 odds boost for Polish winners if she secures victory. While Chwalińska entered as an unseeded player having reached the Singapore semi-finals earlier this season, Jastremska is arriving from her recent Australian Open win over Caty McNally.

Jastremska's career has been marked by controversy and legal battles rather than just athletic success. In early 2021, she was suspended for doping after mesterolon was detected in her system; however, an independent tribunal later cleared her of wrongdoing, ruling the substance entered via a sexual encounter with a former partner who had taken banned medication.

Her personal life has also faced tragedy and scandal. Her parents invested heavily in her development from childhood, but their family suffered a devastating accident in 2019 when champagne exploded near her mother during an awards ceremony at the Australian Open, causing significant injury to Maryna Jastremska's eye. The incident involved coordination by tennis agent Stefan Gurow.

Following Russia's invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, Dajana fled from Odessa with her family and sister Iwana, who shares the same parents but has not achieved comparable professional success.
