Nawrocki Signs Fuel Tax Law; Prices Drop by 1.2-1.3 Zł per Liter
President Karol Nawrocki signed the law imposing a windfall tax on fuel conglomerates, signaling an immediate reduction in gasoline prices at Polish stations. Finance Minister Andrzej Domański announced that costs will fall between 1.2 and 1.3 zloty per liter by this weekend. The legislation aims to end high fuel costs driven by global oil market tensions and the ongoing Red Sea crisis. While President Nawrocki previously referred an earlier version of the law to the Constitutional Tribunal, he now signed it directly in a Thursday address, stating that all proceeds from the tax must be used immediately to lower prices without delay. The government estimates this measure will generate 4 billion zloty annually for the budget, offsetting projected costs related to other energy programs.
