Garrosa and Wimbledon champions face new rivals in Beijing

Mirra Andreeva, the 2026 Roland Garros champion, met Chinese player Yue Yuan on Wednesday at the WTA 1000 China Open. The tournament's wild card winner defeated Oleksandra Olijnik of Ukraine with a scoreline of 6-2, 6-3 in her first-round match.

Linda Noskova, this year's Wimbledon champion, is scheduled to play Elena-Gabriela Ruse in the second round. Rumunian player Lilli Tagger previously defeated Austrian opponent Linda Tagger by winning two sets with a score of 6:4 and 6:2.

Naomi Osaka, ranked number twelve on the WTA list, will face Maria Timofeyeva from Uzbekistan this Friday. The Japanese tennis star won against Czech player Daria Vidmanova in her first match at 1 hour and 24 minutes with a score of 6-3, 6:3.

Australians Maddison Inglis and Maya Joint also competed on Wednesday. Inglis defeated Zeynep Sonmez from Turkey to earn her first WTA 1000 victory but will now face Czech player Sara Bejlek in the next round. Meanwhile, joint's opponent was Sinja Kraus of Serbia.

Janice Tjen won against Anhelina Kalinina with a scoreline of 2-6, 7:5, 6:4 on Wednesday, while Polina Kudermetova defeated Yexin Ma from China in her first round match. Viktorija Golubić from Switzerland and Alaksandra Sasnowicz from Belarus also advanced to the second round.

The main draw of the WTA 1000 China Open tournament will continue until October 11, with winners set to receive prize money.
